Business All Around

Molly has had this mullet growing for a long time now. The rest of her hair just seems to be growing at a snail's pace while the party in the back gets longer and longer. It tends to get tangled and poofy and strange looking. I get (all in good fun) comments on it. So I decided to hack it off. I figure that now her hair can all grow in at one length, although I'm sure that won't happen either.

Now I have this little plastic bag with a little curl of baby hair in it. I have a little bit of Porter's baby hair somewhere too. The first thing my mom said when I told her about the cut was, "did you save it??" To be honest though, I think it's a little bit gross and weird. What am I ever going to do with that hair? Look at it wistfully when my kids are 20? Saving their baby teeth is even more gross and weird, but I know you're supposed to do that too. So, I did it, because it seemed like the right thing to do. But I also think I'm going to throw it out one of these days. I just won't tell anyone.

I'm Cooking: Last night I made a Cucumber and Crab Salad. I served it with jasmine rice, and it tasted a whole lot like a spring roll. I made the dressing as is, but I didn't have Napa cabbage, so I substituted grated carrots, chopped lettuce and chopped purple cabbage. I also added chopped peanuts. This was a great (virtually) no cook light summer meal. I think it would be good with chicken or tofu as well.

  1. Wow, big day for Molly! (And for you. I know it was tough letting go.) Although I will miss the mullet, I agree that it was probably time. And I'm not going to lie that at times (as in picture above) it looked a little, just a little, like a rat tail. We'll all have a good time embarrassing her about it later. Lastly, a confession: I did not save any of Ava's hair nor will I save any of my children's teeth. I also do not save finger nail clippings, you know what I'm sayin? I refuse to be a hoarder.

  2. First of all, what an improvement. Secondly, not only do I keep first locks of hair, but I also still have both of their umbilical stumps as well. I also have the pee sticks from when I got my BFP with both. And I'd probably have A's foreskin, had the Moihel not made me bury it in the backyard.

  6. I still save Keira's hair everytime I trim it. I figure at some point it will turn dark and she will want to see just how blonde is was...or take it to her hairdresser a say, "I want this." Jules, I have her umbilical stump as well, somewhere. I had Devin's too but I can't find it. He's 22 and those things may just dry up at some point..LOL! Baby teeth...yep. I used to put Devin's in an envelope with the date on it, and I just saved the envelope. I even have the pebble that we subbed for a tooth when he swallowed it. My mom saved mine too and still has them I believe.
